The sky on the day you were born
Pick your birthday to see where the Sun stood that day, and how two old traditions, one from the West and one from India, read the same sky.
Why there are two zodiacs
Tied to the seasons. Aries begins on the first day of spring, every year. This is the zodiac in most Western horoscopes. On this site it is read through Steven Forrest, The Inner Sky.
Tied to the stars. Aries begins where a fixed point among the stars says it does. This is the zodiac of India's tradition. On this site it is read through Parashara, in R. Santhanam's translation.
The Earth wobbles slowly as it spins, like a top. That wobble makes the seasons slide against the stars, about one degree every 72 years. The two zodiacs lined up about 1,700 years ago. Today they sit about 24 degrees apart, which is why most people have a different Sun sign in each.
